Waste stabilistation - solidification
The main objective of solidification / stabilisation technology is to achieve a permanent decrease of the mobility of toxic substances present in treated waste.
Stabilisation is based on a change of physical and/or chemical properties of waste as a consequence of its mixing with additives. A suitable combination of waste properties and type of used stabilisation additives leads to the creation of a range of physical-chemical bonds (sorption, pozzolana and concrete reaction, microencapsulation) in treated materials. Stabilised waste can be disposed at a landfill and/or utilised accordingly (e.g. for reclamation) without secondary contamination of the environment. For stabilisation suitable combinations of a few additives are usually used the selection depends on the properties of treated waste (composition, type of contamination, pH, granularity, water content) and requested product properties. The most frequently used additives are: hydraulic binding agents based on cement, lime, flue ash and bentonite. For the purpose of waste stabilisation DEKONTA has developed the following special additives: DekoStab 1 (a product based on grounded rubber) and DekoStab 2 (a product based on humic acids).
The solidification principle lies in the closure of defined waste volume into a suitable insulating layer, which prevents toxic substances from migration to the environment. For this purposes different type of containers, concrete block, and deposition of impermeable materials are used. Stabilised waste is usually disposed at a landfill.
DEKONTA ensures complex services in design, verification and applications of stabilisation / solidification technologies, which comprise of: conducting laboratory tests, a design of recipe for solidificate production, realisation of pilot-scale verification tests, taking-over of waste for stabilisation by an approved technology and supply of solidification / stabilisation equipment
